While you're sitting there reading this, you’re going to learn how a 33 year old mechanical engineer got laid off his job at one of the largest seismic companies in the industry…and made 5 times his old salary.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could get laid off, celebrate by booking a ticket to Vegas and multiply your salary by 5? 10? Even 20?
This is a story about my good friend Lawrence Tam. You see, I started in the network marketing industry in the middle of my college career studying to be an engineer. The constant struggle eventually taught me the principles I know to this day.
Now along the way, I had carried out some massive action and Lawrence, being a guy who takes massive action himself, decided to contact me and connect with me. Little did I know that he lived 15 minutes down the road.
Here’s the crazy thing…I felt honored to be contacted by a top producer in the largest attraction marketing system on the internet. At the time, I was still just starting to pull in decent checks but nothing big. And yet Lawrence (or LT as many like to call him) came out of nowhere to mastermind with me.
You’re probably wondering what this has to do with LT multiplying his income…
Well after connecting with him and learning what he was doing to earn a substantial income that put him into early retirement, these are the 5 things I learned:
Sacrifice. This is a guy who would take a van pool to work an hour away, eat a quick lunch so he could work on marketing, and stay up late to do more marketing after putting the kids to bed. The question I had to ask myself was, “Is my level of sacrifice anywhere near what he’s doing?” You see, I don’t work an hour away from home nor do I have kids to put to bed. I certainly was putting a decent amount of time into my business, but at what level of sacrifice was I at? This is something you should ask yourself too. One thing I learned in my church fundraisers is that not everyone can give the same amount but you can give the same sacrifice. What level is your sacrifice at?
Recruit up. This means connecting with other leaders to join your organization. Of course this doesn’t mean spam the hell out of them in hopes that they’ll join you because you hyped things up. First you have to prove yourself as someone who’s getting solid results too. If you can posture yourself in a way that attracts other leaders, you will make a lot of money in this industry. The name of the game is NOT recruiting the whole world by yourself, but rather leverages other people to help you recruit the whole world.
Masterminding. I’ve had the privilege to speak to LT one on one to evaluate my results. What can I do better? How can I grow my team faster? What ideas do you want to test? No two brains think exactly alike and it’s important to bounce ideas around in order to get the creative juices going. Gaining insight from a successful leader is by far the most valuable gem you can have in your business. Leaders enjoy having their brain picked, granted you are pulling weight on your end.
Testing. This is something I hardly did before I met LT even though I had heard it many times before. It just didn’t click until someone told me in person. I can’t count how many times I’ve launched advertising campaigns without tracking them. Even worse, I didn’t know which ads were working and which were wasting my time and money. Test and track your campaigns to make money faster. If it doesn’t convert well cut it out. If it does, rinse and repeat.
Servant-driven leadership. One thing I’m extremely grateful for is the generosity LT has in well, everything. On many occasions, he’s texted me so he can help me in my business. How many top producers do you know that will contact you out of nowhere to help re-evaluate your business? He’s also shown me to reward people who work hard. By pulling my weight, he has helped my organization grow exponentially through rewards.
It all started with me taking on massive action for a leader to notice me. Little did I know that this leader would eventually become one of my closest mentors network marketing/affiliate marketing. Who knew I would meet him in person for the first time at a local Fry’s Electronics store while I was Christmas shopping? Who knew we would become good friends who consistently talk about growing our business.
These lessons I’ve shared with you are nuggets of wisdom I’ve learned from Lawrence. There’s a reason why he’s earned over $200,000 in one affiliate program the past 7 months (this isn’t even counting our primary opportunity team). There’s also a reason why he can retire at 33, make five times his job salary, keep his wife at home and take care of his parents and in-laws.
Everyone knows that they need to learn from the best to be the best; that’s why I hang around LT. For my business, it has grown tremendously under his leadership. How fast your business grows is up to you.
