We all have a variety of reasons why we're in this industry. Whether it's financial, challenge, or growth it doesn't matter. Everything comes at a cost…a level of sacrifice.
Many of these sacrifices are time related and naturally there are three distinct groups that come into play: the ones who won't sacrifice at all, the ones who sacrifice too much and those that find the right balance.
I want you to be balanced.
I'm not even going to cover the people who won't sacrifice at all, because I personally believe none of you fit that criteria. If you're anything like me, however, you might be OVER THE TOP competitive.
I used to think my competitive nature would be the driving force behind my marketing success (to an extent that's true), but my extreme behavior and sacrifices came at a cost. Sure I was getting sign ups and leads everywhere, but I was obsessed and literally swimming in my own little world of appreciation for my hard work.
Little did I know that I was taking so much time away from other important aspects of my life. Family, relationships, health etc. That's when I realized that I had to find the right balance of work and play so that I don't succeed for nothing. There's such an empty feeling at the bottom of your stomach when you start seeing the success you wanted for people you cared for only to find that they left along the way.
Today I'm going to outline 5 things you really shouldn't ignore as you build your business.
1. Exercise
By now most of you know I'm a pretty big health nut. I constantly make videos after my workouts and really watch what I eat. Exercise releases "happy hormones" (for the medically challenged like myself) and keep you energized throughout the day. It helps you sleep better and over time you'll see positive physical changes. Go out and take a brisk walk, ride a bike, hit the gym or anything else that will get your heart rate up. If you're going to succeed, why not live long enough to enjoy the fruits of your labor?
2. Call Leads
I know this doesn't seem to fit the outline I laid out, but it's certainly one of those things you can't ignore. Unfortunately, many people think the internet is an escape from the phone. I'll tell you that I used to think the exact same thing; I was terrified of the phone. Every time I had one lead pop up, it would take me at least 10-15 minutes to semi-prepare myself to talk to that person…and most of the time they didn't even join.
The key to calling leads is to have an abundance mindset, a "it doesn't bother me if this person doesn't sign up" attitude. Even if that's the ONLY lead you have for the week, you MUST have that kind of attitude, because people can sense when you're begging them to join. Have proper posture and show them that you don't need them if they're not the right fit.
3. Personal Development
The moment you stop learning is the moment you're business becomes stagnant. If you're not growing, your income isn't growing…plain and simple. I don't care what book you read or what training video you watch, just do it. Transform your mindset, master your marketing strategy and learn how to connect through these different learning avenues. Just 30 minutes a day can really have a profound effect on how you build your organization.
4. Plan Ahead
Every night I write down 3-5 major things I want to accomplish outside of my daily routine of marketing. As I complete them, I cross them off and I feel a sense of accomplishment when everything is finished. It might sound tedious but making it a habit is well worth it. "Failing to plan is planning to fail" right? So keep a sticky notepad around and jot down your plans the night before.
5. Spend Time With Loved Ones
Like I said earlier, I was hitting some level of success but I had no one to really celebrate that with me. The people I was trying to sacrifice for were being sacrificed in the process (ironic isn't it?). Always keep in mind that you are doing this for something bigger than yourself. You're not doing this for the money or the fame, you're doing this for people you love.
I really hope you choose not to ignore these 5 things I've come to learn in my journey to network marketing success. I work just as hard, if not harder, than I did when I first started but this time I don't get that empty feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I hope you feel the same.
